DONCASTER ST LEGER 1838

The 63rd winner of the St Leger, held on Tuesday 18th September 1838 over the St Leger course on Town Moor, was Don John, a bay colt by Tramp out of a dam by Lepanto, owned by the 6th Earl of Chesterfield. A field of 7 runners contested the race, although there were 66 subscriptions of 50 sovereigns each, which was worth 3300 sovereigns. (Equivalent to £340,000 in 2017)
